    Car speedometer broke
I have a 2005 Chevy Impala, 33,000 miles on it. I was driving and the needle went crazy over to 90 miles which I was not doing. I just came from the store and started the engine and it went crazy. What can I do for it to be fixed? My e-mail is [email protected]. Thanks Barbara

The repair may be as simple as replacing the Variable Speed Sensor (VSS), located on the transmission. Before doing that, however, try removing and cleaning the VSS connector. It may help to spray the inside of the connector with WD-40.

Here's what it looks like and costs:

Try the suggestions in my posting above, beginning with removing and cleaning the VSS contacts; afterwards, spray the contacts with WD-40. If the problem persists, replace the VSS.

Should the steps above fail to solve the problem, the instrument cluster may need to be replaced, which may not be easy or cheap.
