I have a 3" pvc pipe coming out from the concrete. the shower base is already installed and when they put the drain in they just used a 2" drain and put that into the 3" pipe from the concrete. i know the correct way this should have been done was to use a 3" to a 2" reducer. the problem i'm having now is that i'm getting back wash coming up from the drain and since there is a gap from the 3" to the 2" water is running out from underneith the shower base. does anyone know about a 3" to a 2" reducer that can fit into the 3" pipe instead of the outside. Or does anyone know how to fix this without tearing out the shower base. I have already bought a pull tight shower drain that can install from the top of the base so that wouldn't be a problem. Hi Johnny,

I have a hard time believing that a licensed plumber with leave a installation like that. They make a 3 X 2 bushing that's a inside fit but it should be the installers responsibility to make it right not yours. Good luck, Tom

Why are you getting backwash coming up out of the drain? Is the shower below grade? Are you sure you have this figured out right?

I have a water softner and the suds are coming up this is only happening after I wash the soap off. Also this is a basement shower. Thanks

I really hate to break bad with another expert but this is the second time in as many posts I've had to step in and correct you. Did you even read the complaint? The plumber left him with a indirect waste. Do you know what a indirect waste is? If you did you would never have posted what you did. And you have the balls to ask him if he figured it out right. He has water coming out of a connection that was left open. How much figuring is there to that?
I both respect and am grateful for the experts that come on this page that give advice but when I have to step in and correct every post a expert puts out it's time to suggect that perhaps this isn't the category for him. I sure hope you aren't a plumber out in the field running service calls because if you are then you're what gives plumbers a bad name. Sorry to email you but I just wanted to let you know that I fixed my shower
Drain problem in case someone else might have the same problem. My problem was
That they put in a 2" drain pipe into a 3" pipe coming from the concrete and I
Was getting backwash coming up from the drain and it was overflowing underneith
The shower base. First, I bought a pull tight shower drain so it could be
Tighten from the top of the base. Then I glued 1' of 2" pvc pipe to the shower
drain. Then I bought two rubber 2" doughnuts and slid them onto the 2" pvc pipe.
Once I spread some soap inside of the 3" pvc pipe, the 2" pipe with the rubber
doughnuts on it fix real tight inside of the 3" pipe. I have used this shower 3
Times and not had any water. Sorry if I took up too much of your time. Just
