Stub out to tailpiece drain connection
I am in the process of replacing a bathtub on a slab in a one story house. The cutout and stub is already there. I removed the old PVC fittings and lead in the stub out. The connection dimensions for the new tub drain are a little different from the old tub.
What kind of PVC fitting do I put in the 3" stub out? I assume I would then use elbow fittings to get where I need to be. I want to end up with a connection in the correct location that would accept the 1-1/2" tailpipe drain connection ?

    Thanks,
    Bob

    Hi Bob,
If I understand you correctly you have a 3" drain line,(what material?) that you wish to pick up a bath tub with.

"I want to end up with a connection in the correct location that would accept the 1-1/2" tailpipe drain connection ?"

Without a diagram that's like asking me , "how high is up??" In order to give you a definite answer I would have to know the measure you started with and the position you wish to end up at.
What I can do is give you a general idea. Bush the 3" down to 2" and use a 2" piece of pipe to connect a 2" "P" trap with a 1 1/2" compression gasket.
You may now connect the trap to the tail piece that screws into the tub shoe tee. The trap will swing either way to adjust to the hook up. Good luck, Tom

I'm getting ready to install a tub on the concrete. The drain line was roughed under the slab, and there is a 10" X 10 " dap box that exposes the drain line. It looks to me that the P trap was not part of the rough. So I'll need to glue a P trap in, and leave the open end pointig up in the right...

Shower Drain, leaking connection [ 5 Answers ]
