Transmission for a john deere 160
I have a John Deer 160 Lawn tractor with a Kawasaki 12.5 engine in it and the Transmission is a Peerless 840A 7281 0109. The Deer was running just fine, without any problems, Until I went and purchased a set of snow chains and Jacked the tractor up(the back off the ground). And when I put the snow chains on the tires and jacked the tractor back to the ground, it would not move in any gears or reverse. You can now start it in any gears including reverse. It is supposed to only start in neutral with the clutch engaged. Did I ruin my transmission or did something come loose, any answers with help could save me a lot of money from the John Deer dealer for a new tranny, if there's something I did to put it out of gear. Sincerely, Jerry G.

    Hi,
Did you have the wheels off to put the chains on? Keys secure the wheels and axles together and it sounds as if you are missing one or both.
There is also a flat two wire connector that hooks to the neutral switch on top of the transaxle that probably got unplugged. Some of the machines early in that series had seat switches that you could simply unplug to eliminate; the law was not yet in effect but was coming. That lead to other unusual effect.
    Peace,
    Clarke

Either my clutch needs to be adjusted or my transmission is shot. I looked at the clutch assembly for about an hour but could discover no way to try adjusting it. How do I determine if it's the clutch adjustment or the transmission.
