What keeps a ford diesel from starting?
I have changed the camshaft posioning sensor, the fuel filters, and the fuel pump. The truck had set for about 2 or 3 months. It started right up when I went to start it, and then I let it idle foe approximately 40 minutes. I shut it off and was talking to a friend of min for about 1.5 hours. When I went back to start it again it fired right up. I got in the truck and drove for 2.2 miles and the truck acted as if it ran out of diesel. I cahnged the fuel filters that day then got towed back 2.2 miles, changed my camshaft positioning sensor, and figured out I was not getting any fuel. After changing my fuel pump which was conveniently located on the frame, I can make the truck run by giving it little sips of ether. I know how to use ether on engines with glow plugs without damage. I am not a young kid and this is my 4th ford diesel. I need help, but I need help I can use. I am a pretty good heavy equipment mechanic and pretty good on all gas engines regardless of manufacturer. I am not a Ford Senior Technician with 35 years experience. I would greatly appreciate any useful help. When I have the truck running on ether I noticed that my in dash tachometer is not moving at all.
