    94 honda civic obd location
Yes, I have a 1994 Honda Civic Ex Coupe. The engine code is D16Z6, it's a 1.6L Vtec Motor. Yesterday my check engine light came on. It's the first time this has ever happened since I owned the car. I have had the car since 2000, and have taken excellent care of it. I was wondering if you knew why this has happened and what I could do to solve the problem. I have taken the car to three different shops and none of them of been able to locate the obd location. Im pretty sure it is a obd-1, so I have heard that shops cannot hook into my computer and find the source of error. Also, if you could tell me where the obd is located that would help out. If you could please help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

You need to find the Service Check Connector, which should be located about 1" from the end of the dash, on the passenger's side. It's a 2P connector, which you jump with a paper clip, and is up under the edge of the dash. The Data Link Connector (3P) and the Service Check Connector (2P) are both housed in a protective rubber mount. Carefully, pry the Service Check Connector free.

Jump the connector, turn the ignition ON, and count the number of long and short flashes, if any, of the Check Engine Light. Yes, you have an OBD-I emission control system.

The starter is located just below and to the rear of the distributor. It's easy to get to and replace. Follow the positive battery cable to the starter.

A 1994 Civic is OBD I. OBD II started in 1996.

dirttrack28, verify that the CEL comes on for 2 seconds and then goes out, when the ignition switch is turned to ON (Position II). During this 2 second interval, you should be able to hear the fuel pump run. If all of this checks out okay, I'd replace the Ignition Control Module (ICM) and coil inside the distributor. Apply silicone heat transfer compound to the back of the new ICM.

I can't find a 2p connector under the passenger dash of my 94 civic. There are two fairly easily accessible plugs but they both have more than two wires connected and multiple ports. Am I just not looking hard enough?
