    You evict him.

You'll have to do it legally. Best to find out the eviction laws where you live.

This question was posted in a law forum, answers here need to conform to statutes. If you can't post an answer that does not include applicable law, please don't post in these forums.

However, I have to admit that the idea has some merit, but is somewhat impractical and will not necessarily solve the problem. First, it would mean that the OP has to put a lock on the refrigerator, the pantry and any spaces where food is stored. It would mean refusing to allow the child to partake of any food bought in, stored or prepared in the house. But that could mean confrontation. What if the child comes home and sees dinner on the table and sits and grabs. If the OP tries to stop it, there could be violence.

Or the child can simply buy their own food or eact out all the time, so it doesn't solve the problem.

So the best advice is to given the child written notice to vacate within 30 days. If the child refuses, then the OP will need to file in court for an eviction order.

PM sent by Emacon to me. Emacon, if you wish to discuss a thread, post the info on the thread. Do not try to take the conversation off site.

Maybe you should think before you respond. The OP is under no obligation under the law to feed this 23 year old. By telling this 23 year old he has to buy his own groceries that will change his tune very quickly and he will either start paying rent, purchase his own groceries or move out

In fact if the 23year old threatens violence the OP calls the police and gets the "child" out much faster.
First this response and your PM to Alty don't address the issue that you were not giving acate statutory advice in a legal forum.

There is a big difference between handing a someone a written notice to vacate at a time of your choosing where one can minimize the effect of a violent outcome and refusing to allow someone to sit at a table of food. And yes, a violent response may help get the child out sooner, but would you want to risk it? Is it worth a broken arm or much worse?

Sorry your advice was not very good In my opinion.

    Well to the OP

First why is he not paying rent, does he have a job, was there an agreement that they were suppoe to pay rent,

Would you rather have rent money or have them out ?
You can also give them notice that they will have to start paying rent and then if they don't pay evict them for non payment of rent.
