    Nicotine withdrawl and breastfeeding
OKay you, I don't need any rude comments or put downs, I know smoking is bad and everything. I quit smoking 3 days ago with the use of the patch (Dr gave the go ahead), I'm wondering if my 6 month old son might experience withdrawl symptoms or if my breastmilk might taste different to him. I've tried to find the info online myself and haven't had much luck. I was hoping someone on here might have some answers for me. I kind of assume that if I'm experiencing withdrawl then he must be too, but I don't know. He's been really fussy the last cpl of days, however, he's also teething. So it's kind of hard to know what the deal is. I'm feeling really good about quitting and I only plan on being on the patch for like 5 more days, it's been getting easier and easier, I just need to know if any of this might be affecting him.

Congrats! He may experience some withdrawl, most often possible fussiness, but with him teething you really wouldn't be able to tell what the cause might be. Certainly it will be minimal and decrease as the nicotine is not in the breastmilk for very long. He may notice a difference in taste, but that may or may not cause him any feeding issues and would likely not be an issue for long.
Most likely the fussiness is teething related.
Which patch are you using dosage wise? 7mg, 14mg, or 21mg? Obviously the lower you need to use the better option.

Wishing you continued success... best move you could do for both of you!

I was using the 21mg just for the first 6-7 days, I've been patch free since, it's been 2 weeks :D
Thanks for the response. It was actually my fiancé who thought that our son might be experiacing withdrawl symptoms or that my milk might taste different. I know that the benefits outweigh any issues so I'm happy. And yeah my son got his 2 bottom teeth in 3 weeks ago, and I read that his top teeth should follow within 4-6 weeks, so I figured the fussiness was teething related but I just wanted to be sure.
