    70lbs ceiling fan
    Hello

My house is four years old (Florida) I am triying to install a ceiling fan that requires an outlet box supporting a minimum of 70 lbs but the outlet box does not give any information. How can I find out if it will support it?
    Thanks

Can you see a make and model number inside? If plastic you can usually find information stamped inside, may be hard to see, but should be there. If metal, then less info will be found, and then relis on the bracket holding the box, and that is more difficult to identify.

Legally nowadays all fans have to be mounted to an appropriate fan-rated box and bracket, but you rarely see that other than new construction with fans specifically in mind.

If the box is plastic, fagettaboutit. If the box is metal, determine what it is attached to. If it is mounted directly to a joist you should be OK. If it is not.. .

    1. What was mounted there before? Another fan? A light?
    2. What fan are you hanging that requires 70lbs of support?
