I recently bleached my dyed black hair twice... now my roots are EXTREMELY light and my ends are a weird color that I can't explain. I HATE HATE HATE my hair blonde and am not even attempting to try and bleach the ends again so they would semi-match wich I was going to do and I don't feel like myself. I wanted to try it for a while but I look weird. Now I want to dye it black and don't know if it will turn green or some other funky color and if I can dye it how long should I leave it on for?

The best thing you can do is go to a hairdresser. But, being a DIY hairdye junkie myself, I completely understand if you want to solve this at home.

To be honest, I can't tell you exactly how your hair will take to black dye. If it has been bleached several times the best thing to do is give it a really good treatment and get your ends off before you think about dyeing it.

Dyeing it black in one go is in itself a bad idea. We are always recommended to only go one or two shades lighter or darker than our current colour, so perhaps think about slowly going to the darkside. Pick out a darker blonde and go from there.

There's also the option of trying a toner. A blonde toner can even the hair colour out and tone the brassiness down. You can then colour over the top with an ash blonde.

But with all my advice (from dreaded dyeing experiences) I am not a hairdresser. They will give you the best possible advice available. If you're strapped for cash, mention it when you go in for a hair cut. Ask them honestly what you can do at home to repair your hair and get a more even colour (or how to dye it black). Remember, advice is free. Also, if they try to sell you something, or claim that only a hairdresser (namely them) can fix it, accept their advice but then ask around at other salons.

If all of them tell you that it's beyond home help, then try to listen. Avoid the temptation to buy a home dye and save your money for a treat at the hairdressers.
