So what if I shoot a person.
Okay, so I'm just a small girl, and I have no clue how to handle a gun, but let's just say I am in a dangerous situationa and I shoot some one who was trying to hurt me with a registered gun, but not registered to me. Is that bad?

Depends, how were you carrying the gun and where were you at.

For example in most states to have the gun concelled ( under coat or in purse) you have to have a gun permit.

Then you fall into state law. They will look at if you had the ability to get away, if you could escape you may not have a reason to shoot.

You could be arrested and have to stand trial and use self defense as your legal defense.

And from there, it is up to the DA

I guess it would also depend on how you came into possession of the gun, or who's gun it was.

    Interesting question.

Where did you bury the body?

Seriously, why are you asking this? There are too many things involved in a question like this, it's not a hypothetical because it all depends on the situation.

    Hello d:

You are allowed to defend yourself. You are allowed to use somebody's else's gun to do it.

But, it's NOT as simple as that... Self defense is NOT the same in ALL the states... For example, in Texas, you can shoot a guy who is breaking into your neighbors house, and call it self defense... In other states, you have to be cornered, with NO possibility of escape, before you can use deadly force. In still others, there's a different set of circumstances...

I know, I didn't answer your question, exactly... But, the law is not exact.

Shooting someone is always bad! Shooting can cause death.
My neighbor was shot and killed the other day and I can assure you that it was a bad thing.
A gun in the hands of someone who does not know what they are doing and has no skill in handling a firearm is a disaster waiting to happen.
Get some pepper spray and stay away from dangerous places.

Artlady brought up some very interesting points. Also, if you have no idea how to use a gun then what's to stop someone from taking it away from you and using it on YOU? Either don't carry a gun or get some sort of gun training under your belt. And also understand just when and how you can actually shoot another person hopefully before you shoot another person. They can sue you for bodily injury if you don't kill them you know. And you could be the one behind bars - not them in certain circumstances.

You haven't been on this thread for three months, all of a sudden here you are again?

Have you been plotting all of this? Is that why you've been gone?

If it's self defense then the jury will decide whether it is or isn't. You'll have to prove that you had no choice.

Anything other then self defense is murder (actually, so is self defense, but it's murder because you're protecting yourself) and is punishable.

Well you seem to be planning it. I think you're hoping you do get burgled.

Good luck. Remember that life is precious, even if you hate someone, they are someone's child, they mean something to someone, they have the right to live. Give that some thought okay?

If not, well, remember that these posts are public property and do prove that you've been giving this a lot of thought. Pretty hard to claim self defense if you've been thinking about it for over 3 months. Just saying.
