How new is your washer and how large is the stand pipe it drains to? A 2" pipe should be fine but some new machines can over power even a 2". You can make a sealed connection between the drain hose and the drain pipe.

I had the very same problem. Today's more powerful pumps can overload a older drainage system.
How I over came this was to seal off the hose and stand pipe with duct tape or a compression fitting, (see image ) ant make it a closed system. The pump will force the discharge through and sealing off the standpipe will prevent backups. This will not hurt the washer pump. Mine has been on for over five years with no problems or backups. Good luck, Tom

Washer drainage pipe problem [ 1 Answers ]

I have recently moved into a house(not new) and put in a washing machine. I have noticed( not like it is hard to miss) that the water very quickly begins backing up out of the drainage pipe and over flows, soaking the dry wall and floor. I believe there was something in the pipe causing a blockage...

Mystery Drainage Problem [ 4 Answers ]

My first floor vanity sink has a mysterious (to me) drainage problem. If I fill the sink with water, it drains normally until there is about an inch of water in the basin. Then, it stops and the water just sits there. I have not noticed this problem anywhere else in the house. I've used Draino...
