    Connect pvc to cast iron pipe under pressure
    Hello,

    I help an elderly neighbor with home maintenance issues and she has a leak (apparently for some time) on the water line from the street to her house. Can I splice in a piece of PVC (or other material) into this cast iron line?

    The water service isn't cast iron it's galvanized iron and if you're to cut out the bad section you'll need a ratchet pipe threader with the proper sized dyes plusConsidering the skills and tools needed to work threaded pipe. Hpwever, I might have a bright spot for you. Considering the hassle of replacing the faulty section why not try a pipe repair kit. Good for up to 80 PSI

    I don't see why you could not splice a piece of PVC pipe into the area that is leaking by cutting out the old pipe and using a G-coupling of either brass or PVC to make the connections where the iron pipe and the PVC meet.

    LetmetellU, We've had issues with your answers before on this page.
    Seems that no one knows what a "G" coupling is. Would you care to enlighten us? If it's a compressing fitting forget it. They can't be used underground. If you're going to make a suggestion please give directions on how to mahe this splice and install thyis "G" coupling. Tom
