Hey Republicans - Do you remember Willie Horton?
Hello:
I guess it doesn't matter whether you remember him or not, because it's a bummer for you in any case...
Willie Horton was a convicted rapist who was pardoned by then Governor Michael Dukakis who happened to be, at that time, the Democratic nominee for president... Well, it turns out that Willie raped again, the Republicans YELLED LOUDLY about it, and Michael Dukakis lost his presidential bid...
Yesterday, 4 cops were gunned down in Tacoma, Washington by a fellow who was serving a LONG, LONG sentence in Arkansas, when Mike Huckabee commuted him...
Interestingly, Mike Huckabee, just this morning announced that he's NOT looking at a 2012 bid. Hmmm. I wonder if there's a connection...

If this relegates the Huckster to the dustbin of history it is fine with me. He is a phony ,and his antics during the Republican primaries were almost Manchurian Candidate-like.

I don't pin my hopes on the Huckster either, but there is one difference here. Huckabee commuted his sentence and he then went through the normal parole process and was recommended for parole by the parole board. Horton was serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole and he fled while on "weekend furlough."
Both Huck and Dukakis screwed up, but the idea of "weekend furlough" for dangerous felons seems a little more outrageous than a judgment call on paroling a prisoner. Either way, the Huckster should stick to books and bass guitars.

It appears that after Huck commuted his sentence in 2000, Clemons was back in prison in March 2001, served another 3 years and then was released.
I would not hold the actions of Clemons against Huck.

Hello again, in:
The fact is, but FOR Huck's decision to commute his sentence, that guy would NEVER have had the chance to kill four cops.
Is HE the only one responsible?? Of course not. Is HE the only potential presidential candidate who did this? You betcha. Is HE any different than Michael Dukakis who was torn apart by the right wing because of Willie Horton? Hell no.

The guy went back to prison in 2001 - did they not look at his prior record in sentencing him?

I still remember the infamous Willie Horton ads from the 1988 election. I never knew why they were considered racist because the ad simply pointed out that it was wrong that such a violent criminal was given parole and murdered again. Race had nothing to do with anything. Huckabee wasn't my favorite Republican anyway, if only Sarah Palin could have a Willie Horton or macaca moment, the GOP might have a chance in 2012.

Hello again, Steve:
Or, she could utter something like she can see Russia from Alaska. I'll bet she will. You don't?

The jet flies ahead for certain legs, like that 2990 mile leg that was mentioned. It's also useful when the schedulers want her 500 plus miles away in 2 hours.

The Huskster is making a lame attempt to salvage his career.
Statement Regarding Washington State Slayings - News - Mike Huckabee
Should he be found to be responsible for this horrible tragedy, it will be the result of a series of failure in the criminal justice system in both Arkansas and Washington State.
No Mr Huckaphony ;it was you who commuted Clemmons'sentence .As Governor you were a serial granter of clemency... in all 1,033 . The odds for recitivism increased with each early release. Clemmons wasn't even the worse of the worse. The examiner provides a list of violent repeat offenders after the Huckster did his leniency thingy .
A breakdown of the 1,103 criminals given clemency by Mike Huckabee
Huckabee very rarely offered reasons for his numerous clemencies, although he was required by state law to do so. His pattern of clemencies usually fell into four categories:
The justice system treated them more harshly than most.
They knew a person who had known the governor.
They worked at the Governor's Mansion.
A minister interceded for them.
The only thing that should be in consideration is... will the prisoner continue to prey on society if released ? Clearly the Huckster's judgement has to come into question when he got it wrong so often.

Hello again, tom:
Don't forget those who he jammed with. He pardoned Keith Richards of the Stones after he played with them.
Then he doesn't even cop to making a mistake. What a loser.
