    Two wire receiver on four wire Hunter
    Hello!

    I can't find an answer to this problem. My Hunter fan (Palermo) has four wires for the motor - two for each coil. The wires are red, pink, yellow and gray. I have not tested to see how they are paired. Then I have a Hampton Bay receiver which claims to control the fan's speed and be able to reverse it to. This receiver has only two wires. How do I connect the two? Connect the Hunter coils in parallel to the receiver? Will I have reverse functionality then? Of course I have the guaranteed correct answer - use Hunter receiver/remote, but I am trying to see if the cheap way is possible. :)

    Any comments and suggestions are appreciated. Thank you!

    Are you sure the Hampton Bay receiver is capable of reverse function? Why are you using it instead of the receiver that would have come with the Hunter fan?

    I am not 100% certain about the reverse on the Hampton Bay. But I have installed what looks like the same receiver that came with a Minka Air fan and it does reverse. Two wires from the receiver to just two wires from the Minka motor. So I am fairly confident the Hampton Bay can do reverse. But not sure if it can with the Hunter motor.

    No receiver came with the Hunter fan. It is pull chain controls, and I want to upgrade it. Oh.. I see. My bad. It is not the Palermo fan it is the 192 Mission fan. I bought both and mixed them. The Palermo comes with a receiver and all is fine. The Mission doesn't come with remote. And if you are wondering - yes, I removed the pull chain switches, and pulled the four motor wires from below the motor up into the canopy area.

    You should have left the pull chain switches in place, then you would have been able to install the Hampton Bay receiver. Can you put them back, and put the wiring back the way it was?

    Yes, I can put them back. But then how the Hampton Bay receiver would help me? Most likely I'll have to control the reverse with the chain. And my goal is to have all fan functions - off, the 3 speeds, and reverse - controlled from a remote. I think I am not going to try the Hampton Bay at all and risk damaging it, the fan, or both. I am starting to lean towards getting the receiver and remote from Hunter, however expensive.
