Boss that personally doesn't like me
I have this boss that hired me 2 year ago. Last year at this time she calls me into her office and say “I feel like I don’t know you”, “I’m uncomfortable with you” Needless to say I was confused and pretty shocked. I really didn’t think their was an issue in our relationship, I do my job, come to her when I need her but mostly I would achieve my tasks without her assistance. She had no complaints about my work and still tells me I’m extremely efficient and a hard worker. However now a year later she’s still telling me she needs to know what I am doing to feel comfortable with me and to trust me. She also made the comment that after my review in April, HR wanted to let me go based on the comments she made in the review file but she insisted they keep me. I really do wonder if this is a lie and even if it is true, then why tell me this? She says she wants me to be happy and she’s not sure I’m happy in my job. I really do like the people I would with, I may not be in love with my job but for now I am fine with it and what I do. I don’t believe anyone in our department would agree with her that I am unpleasant or consistently moody or angry. What does get to me is her and I have been uncomfortable around her ever since that day last year. I’ve made efforts to be friendlier, I even would tell her personal things so she felt more connected to me, but we just don’t seem to mesh well (which happens!) Now I am fearful she is going to push to get me let go. I know I will lose this battle to a 20 year veteran in the company. Also with Ohio being an at will state I know they don’t have to have just cause. Any advice, comments, personal accounts would be helpful. Every single job I have ever had I never had a boss that didn’t like me. I know there is more than being an efficient and hard worker but I really feel like this is a personal matter.

She didn't explain why she feels uncomfortable with you? (She used that word?) And you do your work well and in a timely manner? Maybe you aren't "social" enough for her taste?

Don't do this anymore, this confiding in her so she "gets to know you." This is a workplace, not the neighborhood bar. She doesn't have to feel "comfortable" around you as long as you behave yourself, do a good job, and help the company profit. Be friendly with her and everyone but don't socialize.

My boss is somewhat like this, wants to be the go-to person (i.e. the "mom") for all the employees. I don't usually go to her for help because most of my work is logical, I can figure it out on my own, and it's not something she knows much about.

I haven't heard your boss's side of the story, but so far what she says and does are creeping me out.
