Bad capacitor for Lennox Merit Series G40?
I believe I saw the answer in prious posts, but wanted to make sure. The capacitor mounted to the blowere moter housing was making a great deal of "buzzing" noises and I noted a "scortch" mark on the cover plate and plug end when I disconnected the power cord. The fan was not turning but I figured it had to be the problem. I removed the capacitor and attempted to buy one locally.

I am a licensed general contrtactor with multiple ICC certifications. I have multiple HERS ratings certs & a EPA 608 Type II certification. The supplier would not sell me the capacitor directly stating that I was not a licensed HVAC contractor. I was going to attempt to purchase the part online if that's my only option.

Anyone have any remarks or suggestions. Thank you in advance.

You didn`t say what kind of supplier you went to,, if it was a HVAC supply house I can understand,, but any electrical/motor supply house, I would think would sell to you,, but again I can/could be wrong

If there is visible scorching of the cap terminals, the current path may be impeded. Try cleaning up the connection if possible, to at least see if operation is restored. If successful, proceed with a replacement of same "MFD." & voltage ratings.
