Adding an interior soffit to living room
I am in the middle of a remodel of a standard 1500 sq ft single story track home. I wish to add a soffit around the living room to hold can lights and add some interest to the 10" ceilings. I intend to repeat the soffit design to the master bedroom that has 8' ceilings. Yes, I realize I have to raise the ceiling joists in the master bedroom as a soffit would make the already low 8' ceilings even lower. So the bottom of the soffit in the master bedroom will be 8'.
My issue is I don't know how to size the soffit so it doesn't look stupid in both the living room and master bedroom. 8" vertical drop and 16" horizontal from the wall. I don't know and am only guessing.
