High dose Estrogen Birth Control Pills
    Hi,
I am on Ogestrel birth control, which is a high estrogen birth control I took my first sugar pill this morning and haven't gotten my period yet. I don't think this is weird yet, but I was wondering what does a high does of estrogen do to my menstrual flow? Will it be heavier or lighter? Longer or shorter?
It says that Ogesrel is used to help with heavy menstrual cycles and irregular bleeding (that's why I am on it. I had bad break through bleeding before but now I have had none.)

    Please help!

    Thanks!

Every woman's body reacts a little differently. Generally though, birth control will tend to make your periods lighter. I wouldn't expect your period right away on the first day of the sugar pills. I take my pills in the evening and start on Monday (sunday just seemed like a strange day for me lol) and my period usually comes Wednesday or Thursday. Sometimes even Friday.

It sounds like you just started the pill. Don't be surprised if it still takes your body a little bit of time to get used to the pill and for your cycle to be regular. It usually takes about 3 months for your body to fully adjust to it.

Well actually I have been on birth control for about 2 years, I just started this new pill last month because I had irregular bleeding. I am just wondering how this higher dose of estrogen will affect me. If I don't start till the middle of the week will my period last longer? Or when I start my active pills again will it go away? My boyfriend is coming home a week from Tuesday and really don't want to be on my period.

    Thanks!

Even when you switch pills, your body still needs time to adjust. My period usually lasts about 4 days. But like I said, every woman is different. I know it's frustrating but you'll just have to wait and see. And whatever happens this month, may be different than what happens next month since you're body is still getting used to the new pill. Generally, birth control will tend to make periods lighter and shorten. But there's no guarantee.
