Involuntary termination of parental rights for adoption
I hope that I have posted this in the correct place. I have read so many different threads and can't find one as complicated as this situation. To make a long question short - I wanted to know how difficult this is going to be for my family and I to adopt a 15 month old girl (even if it's possible). The 15 month old girl's aunt has custody of her now and has for about 6 months. The aunt is requesting for termination of parental rights of both parents because of abuse and abandonment issues. She has approached my family and I because we are homestudy approved and looking to do a private adoption and has asked if we'd be interested. Of couse we are if this is possible. Anyway, the girl's Father is in jail and the mother has had no contact with the girl (possibly has skipped town). How difficult is this going to be if the parents aren't willing to sign (but they may also)? Could the courts do an involuntary termination if they chose not to sign? Any advise would be appreciated.

My best advice is to get a lawyer.

You're going to need one to untangle this mess.
