US passport for foreign national daughter
    Hi

I am an Egyptian, my divorced wife left to the US a few years ago with my daughter, who is now 14 years old; now my divorced wife asked me to complete a consent statement (form DS 3053) as she wants to apply for a passport for my daughter.

I want to ask if it is necessary for me to sign the Statement of Consent, as I am still living in Egypt, and we have already divorced, why the US government would acknowledge a signature from a foreign national citizen? Why my divorced wife cannot apply the passport on her own?

Moreover, I heard that she could go to and stay in the US from marrying to a US citizen, why this US husband could not make the application for passport to my daughter, as he should be the sponsor for my divorced wife and her daughter, and become the step-father of my daughter?

    Many thanks!

Yes, as a parent, you are required to sign statement of consent. This is to relinquish your parental rights, so her step-father could sponsor visa for her.

Tks for yr answer. However, I would like to further clarify if it is possible that my divorced wife could successfully submit the application for my daughter's passport without my signing of the Statement of Consent; it is the fact that she was the person who took my daughter to the US over 5 years ago; and I had already signed an agreement to let them travel.

Moreover, the form is for US citizens, those information required, such as licience no. is about US citizens, how the information of an Egyptian would be applicable to this form? Also, it requires a notary seal, where I could get the form notarized in Egypt, which is recognized by the US government?
