    02 Honda Accord Electrical problems
I have a 2002 Honda Accord EX V.6. It has 169,000 miles on it. I haven't had many problems with it until recently. Below is a summary, from what I can remember or specific issues and diagnoses.

2 years ago, radio went out (changing fuses didn't solve it). Had it replaced with after market radio which has worked fine until a few months ago. Switching out the fuse would make it work, but it would blow after a few days. The power outlet also would go out.

2 months ago, I had to have the alternator replaced. It seems the battery cables were corroded and those were replaced too. Radio was still out though (got tired of replacing fuses and figured something else was wrong with it).

Car has driven fine since then (no radio), until 5 days ago, the check engine light came on. Took it in to our mechanic. He gave it a tune up, replaced the spark plugs, said the check engine light had something to do with something that helps recylce the gas for emissions. He says he fixed that. Then got the radio temporarily working (all he did was replace the fuse again, though I told him that wasn't the issue).

Then yesterday, I get in the car (hadn't driven it since I got it back from the shop), and the check engine light comes again. The radio then goes out. But then I started having more things go out. The clock stopped working. The passenger automatic window won't roll down, the dash board lights are out, the power locks aren't working, and when the door is open and lights are on, it doesn't make the "dinging" sound.

I have an appointment to take it to the Honda dealership today, but I wanted to try to get an idea of what it might be. Thank you!

Check/replace the ignition switch for wear, pitting, or melting:

This could account for all the problems you are having. Easy DIY fix--AutoZone Part No. LS959, $51.99.

Thank you for that information. I am not fit to work on my car and I need this done today as I have to have my car for my job. Do you have any idea what would be a reasonable amount for the dealer to charge to do something like this?

$30. I would buy the part and take it to the mechanic. I don't believe you need to go to the dealer for this.

Here are some maintenance recommendations, so your Accord can go another 169,000 miles:

Start a Maintenance Log on your car--Date, Mileage, Work Performed. Better, yet, set it up on Microsoft Word.
