Would it help you to know a olympic pool holds about 660,253.09 gallons of water? There will be no exact answer since you do not know her pulse rate. You can only use the average pulse for a average sized heart pumping and average amount of blood. Was the question actually published ina text or did someone just make it up?

Well, you should have an idea of the volume of blood that an olympic size pool can hold, ballengerb gave you a value (which is in gallons).
You should also have an idea of the volume of blood the heart pumps and you can find for 80 years.
Now, use proportions.
xxx volume of blood --- > 1 pool
1 volume --> 1/xxx pool
yyy volume --> ?
I hope you can grasp the method and recall what you did before :)

Bizarre, yes, but more of an exercise in the calculation rather than the actual answer.
It's trying to make kids learn about the application of Maths rather than simply regurgitating, parrot fashioned, what they have learnt.

Yes, it's sort of macabre... but nonetheless, involves logic to see the proportions, comparing different dimensions of volume and time...

We are on city water, but also have a well for 2 of the outside hose outlets. I used the well to fill our 1700 gal above ground pool, which was fine until it was about full. The water pressure was erratic and then no more water, so I turned of the pump/compressor. Does this mean that I just...
