Furnace is blowing out cold air
I have a 1992 Trane 80,000 BTU furnace/air and heat pump. I have had the thermostat replaced and the transformer replaced twice this week. The furnace blew out some heat yesterday when it just fixed, but today just the blower comes on and no heat. I was told this could be a low voltage problem.

    A) Is this hard to troubleshoot?

    B) If it is low voltage, does that mean I will need to replace one of the boards?

    c) How expensive can this get?

    Thanks,

    Karen

The company who replaced your transformers and thermostats twice made the same mistake twice. They should have checked for a short circuit on the low voltage section of the system prior to replacing those items.

Knowledgeable service people know that when a transformer is burnt out that there has to be a reason and not just old age. Transformers last almost forever unless they are taxed beyond there capability and that almost never happens unless there is a short circuit.

Actually it is not hard to trouble shoot for a QUALIFIED service person.

The circuit board could be damaged BUT the qualified service person should test it first since they are expensive to replace.

I have no idea how expensive it could get but if the same person that replaced the transformer(s) and Thermostat (s) continues to work on it the sky is the limit because of the cost of the parts.
