    Wiring the switch
I recently replaced a 2 wire chain pull fan switch in the ceiling fan because the cahin broke off in the old one. I installed it just like the old was in and it did not work. The is one black wire that was attached and the other black wire was not attached. Those are the only two wires. I purchased another switch and the same thing. What am I missing?

A two wire switch needs to use both wires. I suspect one of the wires pulled out of one of the crimped wirenuts.

It might be hard to guide you as to where it goes.

Best possible place that I can think of. You will likely find a rectangular device called a capacitor and likely two of the wires from the same side head toward the speed switch.

The wire on the other side is likely where the missing wire to the switch goes.

Sounds like one of the wires came disconnected. What wires do you have, and what was connected to the old switch?

    Pictures might help.
