First Time Home Buyer's Tax Credit and Married After Purchase
    Hello,

I bought a house back in May '09. At that time I was single, but engaged, and my annual income was above $75,000, so I wasn't eligible for the full tax credit. I was married after buying the house and our combined income is less than $150,000, so now we would qualify.

My question is, if we file our 2009 taxes jointly, would we be able to obtain the full $8,000 credit?

    Thanks.

Yes, because if you are married on 31 December 2009, the IRS considers you to be married for ALL of 2009.

Since you meet the married criteria for the credit, you can claim the $8,000 credit on your 2009 tax return.
