    Min Dachshund puppies
How long does it take for the puppies to open their eyes? Also does the mother do this or do they open them themselves? They are all very healthy.

I take it this is a rescued litter of puppies?

Because surely you would have looked up this vital information before the dog had her puppies.

It takes roughly 2 weeks for the puppies to open their eyes.
They open them on their own...
First you will notice a tiny slit of eye, it may appear slightly blue.
Then gradually the pups eyes will open completely over a few days.

Where the puppies are kept can affect their eyes openeing, they should be in a room that is neither too dark, nor too bright.

Please get your dog spayed as soon as the puppies are weaned and re-homed (at 8 weeks, NO earlier)
There are literally hundreds of dacshund breeding questions on this site, they are the most common breed being bred at the moment and therefor most likely the most common breed being killed in shelters.

Wow, maybe in your part of the world? They are pretty rare here in New England.
I have had this bread now for well over 20 years, (Wow! Doesn't seem that long) And these are very special creatures.
This is my first time breeding them and it has been quite an experience. All very good so far, I just don't look forward to giving them up to new homes... But I want someone else to ba able to enjoy them as much as I do.
7-14 days for their eyes and ears to open and start developing, and a good time for them to get used to people and sounds.

    Rare in New England?

I did a search. New England has tons of dachshund specific shelters. There was page after page of dachshund puppies for sale.

Nope, they're not rare at all.
