I am assuming you need to connect via dial-up. If you need to also have a voice phone, you can use a dual phone jack connector at the wall or at the computer, as long as the computer is not using the dial-up. Otherwise, many newer computers let you use the computer with a headset (microphone and earphones, or built in mike and speakers) as the phone itself. This is usually for when you are using the computer with VOIP or other internet phone services, however. The jack is not for adding a telephone to connect to the internet, there are other (USB) phones and jacks for that purpose (such as MagicJack) - I hope I covered what you needed to know.

Mony computers these days don't come with a modem port, but do come with an Ethernet port. This port is wider than your phone port.

If it is a phone port, it will have a picture of a telephone next to it.

If it is phone, you will only be able to use one at a time. DSL allows you to use your phone and computer at the same time.

In order to plug a computer and a phone in together, you need an adapter that will adapt one jack to two.
