    joist hole basement and attic
Hi again guys! I actually have three questions.

    1. Do I have to bore holes in the floor joists in the basement, if there will be only either no ceiling, or suspended ceiling? Can I just staple them to the face of the joists in this case? EDIT: For 14-2 wire running.

    2. Same sort of question for the attic. Right now, there is boards that sit on top of the joists, and insulation just sits on top of that. There isn't a chance that it'll ever be a livable space up there. Can I just staple right on the boards and leave the insulation just sitting on top?

    3. Is there code for running multiple 14 romex parallel along a distance? For instance, I'm redoing the electrical for all my light fixtures in the house, and I would like to run all the 14-2 cable into the attic from one location through the wall, so we are talking about 7 x 14-2 running through a PVC conduit in the wall cavity, and then along the joists in the basement to the panel.

    Thanks again guys!

I've seen similar questions, but I'm still not quite sure. In my research, as far as I can tell I can run 14/2 cable in the basement if the ceiling isn't going to be drywall, without boring holes. In the attic I read that if I don't bore holes, I need there to be 1x4 lumber on either side of the run, which makes me think boring holes would be easier. In regards to the multiple 14/2 in a parallel bundle, there doesn't seem to be anything that says I shouldn't. But I just wanted to check with you experts just in case, before I move on with this project. Thanks again!
