Drain that my washer dains to smells
The drain that my washer drains in smells. Even if I do not use the washer, I can go up stairs to my bathroom which is on the other side of the house and take a shower and the sewer smell will come from the drain that my washer drains to. I tried bleach, baking soda and vinegar and boiling hot water and nothing is working. I had a plumber here today and he said he would have to check the vents in the walls. In order to do this he would have to make holes in the wall to find out which vent came loose and fix it. He thinks the people who installed the cabinets may have drilled holes in the vent. We just bought this house a year ago and was told the cabinets were installed when the house was built. Or maybe from the force of the water draining from the washer is emptying out the p trap of water. But I don't see that as I put more water in there to cause the p trap to fill. Can you provide any advice? I really do not want to put holes in my wall.
    Thanks

Did this problem just start or has it been a problem from day one?
Ya just don't go tearing up walls on a "hunch" that there may be a open vent in there.
There are smoke test to ascertain that. By "washer drain" I assume you mean the washer stand pipe and not a utility sink. Correct? I want you to try this. Wait until the smell gets bad amd stick a broom handle or rod down to the bottom of the trap and tell me how much water's on the end of it. Back to you, Tom
