I really need to find some novels by an American author, and the critique written on him.

Can somebody tell how I can download them?

Google Guttenberg has a website where there are free downloads. When you hit the download button, a popup screen will appear and please read the instructions. Also, be sure that your firewall is on as there are some websites that "pass" viruses or trojans and other ugh things to your computer with the downloads.
There are authors that have copyrights so you have to pay to download them.
Your local library has free borrowing. You could check with them for the author you wish if you don't have the money for a download. Good luck

Gutenberg.org is the largest free online library that I know of. All works are in the public domain, so you won't find anything post-1925, but you can find almost anything pre-1925.

Malamud is a recent author, so his works aren't in the public domain yet, which means you'll probably have to buy them. These are the best downloads I found:

Some copyrighted books can be downloaded to the Kindle which is sold by Amazon. It's a epaper reader. Sony and then Kindle are the most popular.
There are others in the works from other manufacturer's and 8/5 x 11 versions of ebook readers, I think are due out 1Q of 2010 I think.

What was not known, however, is that Amazon had the ability to unknowingly delete works previosly downloaded and paid for.
