    Sort Files System
    Hi,

I would like to have a tool that can sort all the different types of data in a file system. For example:

    Filesytem1
1 year old 3 years old
    Powerpoint 10% 50%
    Microsoft Word.. .
    Excel.. .
    MP3.. .

Additional information include: How old was the file? Who were the 10 users? Which user used the most space? What kind of files contain the most space? Thank you your feedback.

Since we have many filesystems and there are at least hundred / thousands of files in each filesystem, so we hope to sort these files and keep track of our users usage space. I did research on Quotas, but it doesn't has the capability that we wanted. Any advice? Thanks.

    Define File System??

In technical terms a file system is an electronic database that defines what files are located where on a disk so the OS can find then when retreived. The Filesystem also stores additional info like name, creation date, modified date, and file size.

It sounds like you are talking about either a document manager or a file/archival tracking system. So if you give us more detail about what you need we can help further.

    Scott,

Thanks for the info, and you are correct that I want a "document manager or a file/archival tracking system" to manage/sort these files using the database from the Filesystem. For example:

    Filesystem1

    FileType Name CreateDate ModeiftedData FileSize
    Powerpoint
    Miscosoft Word
    Excel
    MP3
    etc...

Additional info include: top 10 users? Percentage of usage space? Thanks.

So which do you want? The two are different things. You still didn't define what you mean by filesystem.

It looks like you are looking more for a document manager. From what you said, it looks like you want to track electronic files. So do a WEB search on document management software. There are loads of them.
