Im scared to go to our school dances. There are schools from ALL OVER THE CITY.
I call it social suicide. Haha

But this boy I like, we are friends. He was my boyfriend for about a week. But now at the dances he's grinding every girl he knows!
i dont even know what grinding is! everybody says it happens but i dont know what it is and means!

Should I go to the dances??

I'm surprised the school administration allows such a thing. Wikipedia defines grinding as "a type of close partner dance where two or more dancers rub their bodies (especially their pelvises) against each other in a sexually suggestive manner."

If grinding is permitted at these dances, stay home!

It's pretty much dry humping that all the "cool" kids do (they think they're cool anyway... ). It's against the rules at a lot of schools and it's kind of funny to watch the chaperones go up to people and tell them to back off each other. For some reason the guys at the dances I went to always liked to come up behind and try to grind. I wasn't into it. I'd just turn and face them and if they tried it again I realized that I could place my elbows just so on my sides to go right into their gut if they kept trying to get closer then I was comfortable with. They'd get the hint pretty fast :) dances aren't anything to be afraid of. Just bring yourself respect. And have a girlfriend there. And a signal for if one of you is having trouble getting rid of a guy that's getting too close.

If this guy you like is showing that much attention to the other girls, then to me, that shows that he's not really seriously interested in anything with any single of them that might lead to any kind of good, meaningful relationship.

I would suggest going to the dances and doing the socializing that you can to make new friends with those who are best suited to you.

Concerning the "grinding" that is going on at these dances, I would suggest speaking to teachers and administrators about that so that they can put a stop to it. School dances are important times for young people to socialize and they need to be able to do participate without feeling uncomfortable.
