    John Deere starting
John Deere Model 112 with kohler motor approx 1972. Motor starts when you have key in start position but shuts off when the key is moved from the start position to run.

    Hi,
Found the answer once, could not verify, finally got it at Deere. Changes to AM102542 and labelled as with nut and key.
    Peace,

Little confused are you saying the correct part number is AM102542? Before I buy another switch can I unplug the switch and put a hot jumper from the battery to the points and flash the started to see if it will start and stay running? Do you think that will work without burning something?
    Thanks again.

    Hi,
Yes I gave the new number. Both numbers I gave came from Deere; the first from the parts breakdown at:
    John Deere - Parts Catalog
And the second was the number substituted if ordered direct.
Two types of ignitions were possible (not counting the old Tecumseh that you cannot even get points for except as obsolete) so I cannot positively say. In a mageto ignition, you simply unplug the ground. In a battry ignition, you run voltage to the coil. Srvice manual for the engine is at:
