    1. What will happen to your Child Support amount if you are unemployed.

    2. Why does Child Support want to know your recent employment info if your unemployed?

    3. If your unemployed can Child Support decide the amount you pay monthly based on what you used to make at your previous job?

    4. What if you can't afford to pay Child Support in full every month but your making an effort, sending in what you can. Other then the interest- what happens? Is that acceptable?

The first thing I'd do is call your local child support office and ask if there is relief for unemployed workers. My state is offering something due to the economy.

They're going to want to know your recent employment history for a few reasons:

    1) How much you are capable of making
    2) Why you lost your job (layoff, fired, voluntary, etc.)
    3) Whether you qualify for unemployment

Your caseworker can answer or assist with most of your questions. Each state is different in how they handle CS and unemployment.

Generally though (from what I hear from others), the amount of child support that was ordered will remain in effect until you file to modify. CS has the ability to garnish your unemployment wages if you are on wage assignment and/or are in arrears.

Don't delay contacting the CS Administration.
