Kenmore stackable washer dryer unit: washer transmission
I have a 14 year old Kenmore stackable unit, spent several hundred dollars here and there every few years to have the dryer belt fixed, etc. Now the washing machine portion, it will start a wash cycle, then stop, leaving the water to sit in the barrell. A repair guy said its not worth replacing the transmission for $600, we could just buy a new unit. And he said even if replacing the transmission, the seal would eventually leak in a short time, since it never quite matches up well once it has been disturbed with the transmission. Now I am looking at throwing out the whole unit, ( including a perfectly good dryer? ) and buying a cheap side by side set of washer and dryer. Any suggestions? Does no one buy a stackable with one good unit working even though the other unit ( washing machine ) doesn't?
