    Converting from ft/s to mph
If an elevator can move from 676 ft in 38 seconds what is the speed in meters per second? How do I do this?

You want units to match up:

    Code:
    676 f m miles
    _ X ___
    38 s x feet
The units of feet will cancel, so your left with miles per second.

I left out the values for m and x. You should know this conversion.

It doesn't matter what you need, you just keep putting the ratios togeter until you get what you want.

miles per hour will reguire 60 s/ min and 60 min/hr. Just arrange it right, so the units cancel as above. It's left as an exercise.
