    The length of a rectangle is three times its width.If the width were increased by 4 and the length remained the same the resulting rectangle would have an area of 231 square inches.Find the dimensions of the original rectangle

    We are told that L=3W.

    The area of a rectangle is Length times width.

    The width is increased by 4, so we have W+4

    The area is then L(W+4)=231

    But, L=3W:

    3W(W+4)=231

    Solve the quadratic.
