Theft under 500 first time offender
I was recently charged with theft under 500. Thisi is my first offence and I therefore have no criminal record or history. I an an exchange student from the caribbean. My court date was set on a day after my previously arranged date of departure. I am therefore asking if it is posible to get the date moved up and what will be the most likely outcome and my best strategy.

    Hello p:

Assuming you're in the US, the only way you're going to get your hearing rescheduled is to have a lawyer do it. If you leave without taking care of it, a warrant will be issued for your arrest, and if you ever come back, you won't get further than the airport before they put you in jail.

I'll bet you can handle it all with the help of a good lawyer.. No, it ain't going to be cheap.

Thanks for your responses, I have tried obtaining a public defender and I didn't qualify and I can't afford a lawyer. If I was to plea guilty, what would likely be my punishment. This is my first offence, and I am currently enrolled in college in my homeland. My visa expires 2 days after my trail date. With this in mind, what is the likely outcome.
