Lennox H916-511U-BP Central Air Conditioner doesn't work
This unit came with the house when bought it. Its 17 years old & we've never had trouble with it. This summer when I switched from heat to a/c I noticed the fan would run continually but the air was never cold. The unit sits outside next to the house. I took the back panel off & noticed the insulation on the panel had been chewed off & was stuffed in the bottom & some crevices of the unit. As I was cleaning the chewed up insulation out, a mouse jumped out at me...! I finished removing the insulation from the crevices & tried dropping the thermostat in the house to 60 degrees. Now I can't even get the fan to come on. Below is the info found on the side of the unit:

    - Model: Lennox H916-51U-BP
    - Design Pressure High 300 Low 150 psi
    - Motor Rating: RLA HP FLA LRA
    Compressor 23.8 114
    Fan Motor 1/6 1.2
    - For Outdoor Use

Being a newly single mom on a very tight budget, I'm trying to rule out any obvious or easy fixes that I may be able to do myself before having to call a repair man. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did the outside unit come one before you cleaned it? If mice were in the unit, they may have chewed through some wires. While cleaning the unit, you may have shorted the wires causing the inside units fuse to blow. This really is a job for a qualified tech to figure out. It is most likely an easy fix, but that is a.. glass half full.. assessment. I wish I could give better answer here, but its impossible without being there to do visual inpection and test equiptment. Good luck and I truly hope one of the other pros here can give you better advice. Good day, Lee.

I completely agree with mygirlsdad77. Unless you have the proper tools/electric meters and know how to use them it will be better and SAFER for you to call in a pro for a ON site inspection and repair.
