Greetings.

I have a newer WellXTrol WX-203 tank. Recently, the pipe coming into the tank from the well burst while I wasn't home, leaving a lot of water in the basement!

Ever since I replaced that pipe, the tank no longer appears to be functioning properly. It only fills about 25% full. I can tell this by a condensation line outside the tank.

In doing my googling, and looking at the gauges and tank, I have determined it is a WX-203 with a Cut-In set to (and working--tested by running the water and seeing the pump kick on when it hit 30) and a Cut-Out set to 50 (again, verified after pump shut off when it reached 50). According to the label outside the tank, it has a prechard setting of 30.

Using a separate gauge from the dial gauge, I have determined the pressure to be between 36 & 38 with the tank "supposedly" full and cut-out. With the power off and the tank empty, it drops down to 20.

From my understanding, the precharge of 30 and the cut-in of 30, means the air-pressure should be 28? What I don't understand is that number with the tank full or empty? If it's full, then do I remove 8psi from the valve at the top of the tank? If it's supposed to be 28 on an empty tank, it sounds like I have too-little pressure. Do I add (with like a tire pump) in that air valve? Will fixing this pressure problem allow the tank to fill up normally?

This is a bladder tank. Not a holdimg tank. Were you under the impression that you purchased a holding tan? Have you read this? http://www.aquascience.net/resource/...stallation.pdf
Bladder tanks don't "fill up" they perform the same function as a pressure tamk.
To set the air pressure in a bladder tank, look at the cut-in pressure on your pressure switch. Now drain the line down with the pump off. When there is no more water coming out of the hose bib that you drained the system down with set the pressure in the bladder tank at 2 lbs. below the cut-in pressure. Check it with a tire gage. If your pressure control is set to come on at 20 PSI and go off at 40 PSI then your gage should read 18 PSI. Hope this helps and thank you for rating my reply Tom

Thanks for the reply. You were correct that I misunderstood what the tank did. I thought it was a pressure tank AND a holding tank.

Anyway, I did get the issue resolved after killing the power, emptying the tank, and re-adding air until it reach the original precharge level of 30psi (as noted on the exterior label of the tank). I then slowly dropped it down to 28PSI as my pump is set to 30/50.

After that, I powered it back up and was able to successfully have the faucet running, while going through FOUR completed toilet flushes before it needed to recharge! :) Before this, it was kicking on almost every flush.
