Would you buy a gas free automobile
If someone could build a car engine that used no gas ,made no exhaust fumes and was completely electric and self contained would you buy one ,and what would you pay

Hi, fat cat!
By electric, how specifically do you mean that it would be powered, please? By batteries or some other way, electrically?
Thanks!

Hi again, fat cat!
I would buy such a vehicle, as long as it would get me to and from where I would need to go; I would be able to carry at least three passengers in it and also not require going to great lengths to charge up the batteries. Using electricity can get expensive also.
Hopefully, others will also come along to address your question. I do feel that there could be a lot more discussed concerning your question. I just gave you some of the minimal requirements that I might have.
Thanks!

No I wouldn't. This is an area where I am old school and guilty I suppose of liking the power that a gasoline engine provides. I guess that I am just not as polictically correct as I thought.

What if the battey-powered car would operate as powerfully and do the things that you wanted it to do, as much as a gas-powered engine, Stringer?
My thinking is definitely along those terms.
Thanks!

Nothing is free! The cost to the environment to mine the raw material, refine it, and then create these batteries is more devastating to the environment that all the gasoline burned during the typical life of the vehicle.

Good morning guys,
I think that is part of it, even though I too would like to do things that would help the environment (I recycle) I think that there is a rush to accomplish it. And thorough research isn't always available or some information may be hidden because of an agenda possibly. By that I mean things as 450 mentioned above.
But honestly, when it comes to my car well I just enjoy the rumble of that engine and the feel of the power when I drive. I know that is not the popular politically correct thing however I am old and kind of set in my ways... thus that 'old school' thing.

450 has a good point! And, what happens in Los Angeles when a couple million electric car drivers all plug in there charger at the same time. They already have roling brownouts and the occasional blackout. I like the thought of hydrogen as fuel but again what happens when that same couple million drivers in LA all start belching out water vapor from their H powered cars.

OK FC I give up. What sort of propulsion are you thinking of that does not consume something that we humans need to sustain life as we know it?
Second part of the question. Does it have enough torque available to pull my 13,000 pound trailer? Will it get acceptable economy? Will it safely carry 5 passengers? Can I park it in half the space required of a current Ford focus?
See why this debate is so impractical. You me everybody has different needs requirements for our vehicles, there is no one pat answer. Now, do I believe that it is ridiculous to drive a 1 ton crew cab dually truck to work every day with only one person in it? YES! But the alternatives for many people is not economically feasible, so what is the bottom line point?
