Employer located debt from 10years ago
I currently work for a debt collection company.. have been for 10 months.. well recently they located a credit card debt that they say I owe from 10 years ago. They say I could dispute the accout or arrange for payroll withdrawals. I never had a credit card account. I plan to dispute the account.. howver I wanted to know what consumer rights I have and could this cost me my job?

What state country are you in?

You may be able to dispute it with the statute of limitation but if it wasn't you are saying you never had a credit card you may want to find out how you have the debt.

    But definitely dispute it.

If it wasn't you ,could it have been ID theft?Have you checked your credit report lately? Tell them that the sol is up and also if this company is so sure it is yours tell them to produce the orignial signed document. You know that after 10 years they can't.

    Sheesh, dunning their own employees.

DO NOT agree to payroll withdrawals. Unless a judgment had been obtained previously they have no legal means to collect this debt.

Tell them it's a mistake and they need to prove its your debt before you will agree to anything.
