I have a 50KW generator powering an exploration camp. Last night it went from a two stage system to one stage. Now only half of the each breaker box has power and I can't run any 220v equipment. Is this a generator problem or can the main breaker box be the problem? I've managed to get power back to the entire camp by moving individual breakers around, but I'm afraid that I'm putting too big of a load on the generator. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Can you check the power coming INTO the main breaker? Can you do this safely, yourself or do you need help from an electrician? If you are comfortable doing this type of troubleshooting, start with the panel you have already opened. If only one leg of the breaker is being fed from the generator, does the generator itself have breakers... (it should) Keep us posted with your troubleshooting.

The generator has a 200W breaker with 247W going to the main breaker, The main breaker is 100W with 108W to the breaker box. The 2nd stage wire (white main) coming out of the generator is producing 120W, then in the breaker box it reads 38W. Could my problem be from the 200W breaker on the generator to the 100W main on the breaker box? If I were to replace the 100w main with another 100W breaker and test it right away would that clarify any questions...

First of all, what is the W mean? Ie; 200W, 247W, 108W.

Don't you mean volts or amps?

Since your using all the wrong terms, we have no idea what your really dealing with.

What is needed first is to follow Missouri's advice, measure the VOLTS coming into the main breaker, from the generator. This will help determine if the generator output is the problem, or a defective breaker.
