    Hampton Bay ceiling fan
I have a Hampton bay ceiling fan w/ remote. A light burned out and I heard a "popping" noise which I assumed was the bulb burning out. HOwever, the remote no longer works the lights. It does work the fan, just not the lights. I have replaced the bulbs, but still no remote operation of the lights -- neither on/off nor dimming. Ideas?

Sounds like something shorted out in the receiver. Thi happens and there's not much you can do to fix it other than replace the receiver or entire fan. Does the fan have pullchains?

It does not have pull chains. Would a short in the receiver allow the fan to wok but not the light dimmer/on/off? The lights themselves are working. I can turn it on and off at the wall switch but there is no response of the lights to the remote.

Yeah if just the light circuit in the receiver shorted. I can't think of anything else that could be wrong, other than the receiver.
