My a/c unit started making a loud noise then went out. Called a supposed exp.contractor who said it was motor, but when he put motor in, we knew something was wrong, because the unit was sucking air IN through top instead of blowing air OUT through top. It never cooled off inside and unit was way hot to touch, so after 3.5 hours I turned it off. Did research on Google to find photo showing it was supposed to be sucking in sides and blowing out top where fan is, printed and called him. He came back and mumbled something about 'the polarity being reversed' and said it was NOW fixed. It worked for 3 hours then fan quit working and started making same loud noise again. The plate on the side of the unit says Goodman Manufacturing Co. Model CK60-1C, 208/230 volts, phase 1, 60 hertz, voltage range 197-253, min. circuit amps 33.1, compressor RLA 25, LRA 170, fan motor 1.8 FLA 1/4 hp.

Could the fact that is was set up wrong have caused this new (really used, he said) motor to have burned out already? Could it have caused the compressor or something else to be damaged. I have no faith in a contractor who would be so incompetent as to install a motor wrong, so am trying to figure out next step. In mean time, this is the only cooling on my 3500 sq. ft. retail shop where we're having 100+ degress right now! Need to get it fixed. Am in very small town 1 hour from anywhere to get most parts, so want to get it right.

Sometimes you get a motor that spins backwards, their will usually be 2 wires you swap to change directions.
When he first powered up, he should have verified it was blowing out the top.
It will not remove the Heat like when it was revewrsed, should only of made fan go backwards, An AC guy may say compressor could get overheated?

So wait was this motor new or used? If it was used your in trouble.. more than likely a bad motor. If it was new you might be okay.

Most motors not all have a set of wires that control the rotation of the fan. They are not physiacally connected to the electric source. So reveresed polarity does not work for me on this matter.

If the fan was going backwards it will not cool. And yes your compressor will overheat and even shut down on thermal overload.

I would make this guy come back take motor and refund you all of your money. In the meantime start looking for someone new.
