    Goodman furnace frying control boards
I have a 1999 Goodman model gsm060 that keeps frying boards. Have had this furnace in my shop for 10 yrs under the same conditions. Last heating season the board went bad. I replaced it and it lasted 2 weeks. And went bad. Had local shop come out being board was not under warranty due to me installing. There board went bad also in 2 weeks. Tech came back out all checked well he looked for shorts and performed routine checks. That board went bad in about 2 weeks as well. Each time the board went bad it seemed there was a different scenerio. One time not enough volts to start draft inducer motor next time not enough volts to start blower motor, next time it would heat up until it satisfied the thermostat and the inducer motor would keep running, I could shut the power to the furnace and start back up it would go through the cycle and heat but the inducer motor never did shut off. They installed new board it was bitter cold that night, came into the shop the next morning and it was bad, the tech came back installed new board and this time he put volt meter on blower motor and told me it had spiked when blower motor came on, was to get back to me. I had shut the furnace down and heated with electric units as this is a small work shop (28x 32 ft.) In mean time local shop said they were done and could not replace any more boards it is out of there hands Goodman tells them it is something in the atmosphere due to the fact this is not a residentual environment. I put power to this unit when the cooling season came thinking I would also blow a board after a while but it has kept on working. For the question why does this unit not blow boards in the cooling mode and just in the heat mode. Does this blower motor have 2 stages to it one for heat and one for cooling? Any help would be appreciated I do not agree that it is in the atmosphere as why did one board last 9 years and then start to eat these other boards.

You didn't actually say what kind of shop or what kinds of tools are used.

    I's first check the grounding.

Then I'd install one of these: The CB1115, 12 Amp model, ought to be sufficient. http://www.chloridepower.com/upload/...%20CB%20CC.PDF

Note: A hardwired option is available

Your problems will go away. I'd guess that these are in the $1K price range, but it's been a while since I purchased 3 of their earlier models.

At $225 a board, you have to do something and yep, Goodman will say it's the environment.

So tell me a little about the electrical environment: motors? Welders? etc.

It's not what it costs, but what you loose in productivity.

Yes, most all furnace motors have at least 2 speeds,, low speed for heating and med.or high speed for cooling

    Your manual is here: http://www.hvacpartsshop.com/Gmph050-3.pdf

It appears to have a 2 stage gas valve and a variable speed blower.

Here is a repair parts index also:
