My left hand thumb is swell.. it is really painful... Please suggest me what is it.

Looks like it is infected,possibly from biting your nails if indeed you do and or an ingrown fingernail.

I had this several years ago and it was MRSA. You need to get it checked out ASAP.

Had that in my right thumb during my prerequisites. As I was looking at this photo, there is a pocket of puss on the outer rim of the thumb. It may NOT be MRSA, like I had, but better safe than sorry.

Arty, you looked it up... what are your thoughts?

I didn't see a photo of it.The reason I went with ingrown nail was my BF had one a while back and the skin on the side of the nail started to pull back in the same way,as in this photo.

I think that if the OP is in the health care field than MRSA is probably a good bet.

What do I know?I dropped out of medical school(to be a med assistant,not a doc).

Clearly,it is infected.

Thanks to all. My Doctor say's it's is a normal infection caused by pulling the skin from the side of the nail. Prescribed one antibiotic Cefakind-250, painkiller Voveran-50 and multivitamin tablets.

MRSA is no longer a health care field required infection. It is now a community acquired infection. It is rampant in schools, particularly locker rooms. It is also rampant in gyms where guys and girls work out.

I've never heard of MERSA, but that's how you pronounce MRSA. Methacillin Resistance Staphylococcus Aureas. Last year it did close a lot of schools in our area.

Yes, it can be dangerous. Very dangerous, this is why I suggested you have it looked at.

Can you go to an emergency room? If so, they cannot turn you down for lack of insurance.

Its not MRSA. Because Symptoms is not similar to the MRSA.
