    Acute Leukemia
My husband was diagnosed with Acute Leukemia, yesterday. He is scheduled to start Chemo tomorrow. He was diagnosed with Lupus in 2001. After he finishes the Chemo, do you think that taking Ambrotose would be a good idea? He will have to be in the hospital for 4 to 5 weeks in a sterile environment, because he will have no immune system. Thanks for your input. B. Johnson

Taking Ambrotose is strictly up to your doctor. We cannot suggest meds here because we do not know his complete medical and family history as well as the fact that we have not done a physical exam.

I am sorry that we cannot help you more, but "prescribing" meds over the internet is never a good idea.

I don't believe Ambrotose would help much with a diagnosis of Leukemia. One reason is because it would be hard to find clinical evidence to back up my opinion.

Ambrotose is a nutritional supplement and nutritional supplements are not proven to be effective as their claims, thus do not require a Physician's prescription. Therefore, you can give him this supplement if you desire to do so, but no promises.

However, my concern is for the way his body will absorb the chemotheraphy drugs and other drugs in which he may be perscribe. Drugs are absorbed mainly by the liver and kidneys; too much may lead to further complications metabolising the drug he need the most.

Secondly, Leukemia is a disease characterized by neoplastic proliferation of one of the blood-forming cells. Death is usually due to complications resulting from infiltration of the marrow by leukemic cells and replacement of normal hematopietic cells.

This is far from the result of Ambrotose which claims to boost the immune system. It does not effect the production of red blood cells.

Ambrotose may also, further worsen the condition, with the production of white blood cells. The disaster of Leukemia is the over-production of white blood cells and not enough red blood cells.

Therefore, I would suggest that you consult with your Physician regarding the diagnosis of Lupus and Leukemia. There are several rare types of Leukemia e.g. thrombocytopenia which usually occur from platelet autoantibodies, and hemolysis due to red blood cell autoantibodies.

    Hope this answers your question!
