I currently have a leak from a second floor shower stall drain. It is obvious that the leak is coming from the seal between the drain and the shower floor. The drain assembly is glued to the drain pipe and can not be loosened from underneath. I had to remove the drain assembly from the inside of the shower, jury rigging a pair of pliers to fit the groves on the inside of the drain to do this. To my surprise I was able to remove it so I replaced the caulking and it worked, for a while. The leak is back again. I've read previous posts abut the floor flexing. I've checked and there are ribs underneath that contact the floor, so it is hard to believe that there is anything else I can to to provide additional support.

My questions-is there a plumber's tool like a key, to fit the inside of the fitting (like I have for my swimming pool) and is there anything else I can use besides plumber's putty that would hold better under flexible conditions?

Are you sure it's a glue type drain body?

From what you describe (being able to remove it internally), it sounds like a 'No-Caulk' style drain body.

Is there a black rubber donut inside the drain body that fits around the pipe?
